Our Frequent Commenter (and Harry Beaton) wins award
Perhaps you've seen Steve Edlund comment often on this blog. And you may know he's playing Harry Beaton in Brigadoon, but I'm sure he's too modest to tell you that he just won a wonderful award.
Each year for the last 11 years AMT SJ has sponsored the High School Music Theatre HONORS Awards, recognizing the best in local high school musical theatre.
Steve won for Best Male Performer, in his role as Stone in Los Gatos High School's production of City of Angels.
He'll receive a scholarship to AMTSJ's 9-week professional training program.
Congratulations Steve!

A Divine Diva Benefit on June 8th
Local performer Molly Bell is directing a benefit called Divas for Live on June 8th in Los Altos to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
You'll get at least half a dozen divas for the price of one, so it's sure to be worth the donation!
Check out all the deets on Molly's site (designed by Foothill alum David Curley, just like my Worker Bees site is.)
Check the divas out. You know they love that!

Foothill alum reviews Foothill alum
Bill Erenata snet out this review of one of the shows I mentioned yesterday, A...My Name is Alice at City lights:
"I attended the first public preview of City Light's production of "A...My Name is Alice" this evening and want to bring this production to your attention. A colleague, Robyn Winslow, is in the cast, and I have been to other City Light's productions, and am always impressed with their quality. I would like to recommend this to you. It runs May 19th through June 26th, and was conceived by Joan Micklin Silver & Julianne Boyd. It is described as "a sophisticated and bawdy anthem to the power of women everywhere that the New York Post calls "a boodle of laughs" this bluesy, jazzy, award-winning musical review is a celebration of self-discovery and empowerment for all to enjoy". The Director, Lisa Mallette, writes : we are women. We are daughters and mothers and grandmas and aunts, wives and lovers, sisters and friends. We laugh. We cry. We nurture and support. We are quiet and coy. We are strong and bold. We are insecure and we are "hot". We are sexy AND play sports. We keep secrets and we tell it like it is. We are confident and smart and still need our moms. We are resilient and resourceful and still like to be spoiled. We are communicative and open and need to be heard. We are good listeners and we ALWAYS have something to say. What is most important: We have a sense of humor about ourselves!
For those of you who have seen Robyn perform in other things, you will gain some added insights into her blossoming potential. She and the other four women making up the cast will take you on a non-stop romp.
If you are going to see it check out San Jose's artsopolis.com, and if you are not currently registered, do so, so that you too can receive the weekly half price announcements of the theater opportunities in the San Jose area. Their May 19th bulletin contained discount information on next weeks performance of "A...My Name is Alice".
Treat yourself to an evening of enjoyment: See this!"

Foothill folks out in the world
Couple more shows coming up featuring Foothill folks.
Robyn Winslow is one of the 5 women featured in the City Lights production of A...My Name is Alice
The show opens tonight! And has a nice long run through June 26th.
So Robyn is another one who likes to keep busy, given that she's also in the ensemble of Brigadoon!
Then fellow Candide sheep Lyndsay Faye is starring in CMT's Marquee production of Chess as Florence.
That plays this weekend only, so you don't have much of a chance to catch Lyndsay in action.
I'm sure Lyndsay and Robyn are so glad that they will never escape their sheep-ness...they were, if you recall, one of my Top 5 things about Candide!

Tony Awards announced
I'll let Blogway Baby do the honors.
I have now officially been absent from New York for so long that I have not seen a single nominated show. And there's no way I'll make it there before the Awards ceremony.
So, I have officially have no opinion whatsoever. And oyu know that's gotta be hard for me!
I will say I love, love LOVE Joanna Gleason and Mary Louis Parker, therefore they should win.

Two more Worker Bees Theatre Discounts
Discount #1: 42nd St. Moon's The Boys from Syracuse: Get 20% off all regular tickets (Sundays excluded)
The show opened this past weekend and runs for two more. Being Rodgers & Hart, it's selling quite well. Foothill did Syracuse back in 1991, starring yours truly ;) The score is full of gems you will recognize. This Can't Be Love, Falling in Love with Love and Sing For Your Supper are three of the most renowned numbers. Supper, in particular, is a show-stopping female trio with some swingin' jazz harmonies.
Worker Bees Discount: Get 20% off all General Admission tickets for all performance (excluding Sunday matinees.) Use the promotion code ONLINE when calling the box office: 415-978-2787. Details here.
Discount #2: Bebe Neuwirth in Here Lies Jenny: Get $10 off all Tues.-Thurs. performances
Bebe Neuwirth actually started out as a Broadway hoofer, and I've seen her several times. She is hot, hot, hot. Now she's bringing her show exploring the work of Kurt Weill, Here Lies Jenny to the stage at the Post Street Theatre.
The show only runs a few weeks, opening this week...so you better hop to it. More info here.
