Really. You gotta go.

I mean, what else marks a good review but the reviewer urging everyone to go?

Foothill Alums out in the world

When clients collide!

Was looking through the cast list for the next show up at 42nd St. Moon, The Golden Apple, and saw a couple of Foothill alums.

Carly Ozard (Ragtime) is playing Mother Hare, and Nick Nakashima (Candide) is playing Diomede.

The Golden Apple opens on March 23rd, and we'll be having a discount for blog readers, of course, so stay tuned for that.

Going to see Urinetown tonight

I am quite excited to see the show. I saw it in SF a couple years ago, up in the mezzanine. Loved it, but think it will be an entirely different show in Jay's hands and in the intimate setting of Foothill's studio theatre.

I was just describing the show to a friend this morning as "Brechtian, but actually entertaining." Yeah, I'm so low-brow I don't think much of the show this most reminds me of, Threepenny Opera, even though I was in the wonderful Foothill production of Threepenny 12 years ago (yikes!)

Will try to post my review tomorrow no matter what.

Review of latest Cirque du Soleil

My review of Corteo is here at my Personal Blog.

Hint: It was one of their best yet!

Veggie theatre

Little known fact about me, at least to readers of this blog, is that I'm a vegetarian and write a column on that for a local weekly here in Silicon Valley.

I got a notice about an interesting one-night-only performance going on next week. Unfortunately cannot attend, but I figure I can't always just pass along info on musicals:
Come see "The Vegan Monlogues," a very funny and irreverent look at vegetarianism and veganism by solo performer/storyteller/vegetarian Brian Conroy.

"The Vegan Monologues" will be staged one night in San Francisco: Wed., Feb. 22 at 8 pm at a wonderful, intimate venue called The Marsh, 1062 Valencia St. near 22nd St. Just a few blocks from the 24th St. Mission BART station. Tickets, $8-$12, are available only at the door (no advance sales).

Brilliant title, don't you think? If anyone out there sees it, let me know what you think.

Blogger picking on this blog?

No, not really, but while I've been able to publish on one of my other blogs, this one keeps saying that they're working on system enhancements and to try later.

What did Foothill ever do to you Google? Now I know why you're the new evil empire.

New TheatreWorks season announced

Here's the Merc blurb [reg. Req'd. Sorry.]

But you can also see the list at the TheatreWorks site.

The Merc's take is that women will be "in the spotlight".

My first take is that they should have said "women, as written by men, are in the spotlight."

To be fair, Lynn Ahrens is the book/lyrics person for Dessa Rose. And Joanna McClelland Glass wrote Trying.

My second take is "woo hoo they're doing Follies!"

My third take is to wonder if they'll have Francis Jue back to play in M. Butterfly again?

Review: AMTSJ's The Lion King

Well, actually it's a touring production, but why quibble.

I mostly have one thing to say: PLEASE KEEP THE AISLES!!!!

If you don't go to the San Jose Center for Performing Arts that means nothing to you, but if you do, you're probably nodding your head in agreement. See, the CPA is just one big sea of seats with aisles only on each far end of the row. To get to any seat you have to start on one end and make your seat, and if your seat is in the center you probably have to climb over 20 or 30 people.

But for this tour of The Lion King they actually took seats out and made 2 more aisles, so the animals could do their regular procession down the aisles and up on the stage during the opening number.

It makes the theatre much more pleasant, and I wish they'd keep 'em. But I've already heard they won't, so I'm just spitting in the wind. Or something like that.

Anyway, here's my review of the show as posted at my personal blog. You stillĀ have 3 weeks to see it, and I'd recommend it.
