Little SJ Rep Update
So i finally broke down and called the SJ rep again, resisting my hasty impulse to stop payment on my check and forget the whole idea. After much being put on hold and confusion I was finally connected to the original guy who called me. I honestly don't think he really knew who I was or what I was talking about at first, even though he was trying to answer my question and get me off the phone. But I will not be dismissed so easily, especially when his "answers" seemed completely unrelated to my questions...and he didn't seem to get that he had called me.
Bottom line: I'm still not really sure, but I think his original call was only to inform me that he couldn't guarantee the same seats as I had requested. That was it. Just a little heads up.
It's just a shame that it took 4 phone calls and a lot of wasted time on hold and trying to explain my question to figure this out.

This whole thing just goes to show that even though these LORT houses like the Berk/SJ Reps and ACT's of the area have tons of money and build huge sets, they can be very disconnected to their patron base. I've found, especially over the last several years, that the quality of the shows at these LORT's and remains good (if not fair), but you don't get as big of a drop-off in acting quality and overall-experience with the respected community theatres of the area as you did in the past.
Places like ACT have been so-so and have left me wanting more as of the last couple of seasons, but places like City Lights in SJ and Foothill Music Theatre have been outstanding. The quality continues to impress and I even enjoy the acting much more (and this is coming from an insider theatre person!). Also at the community theatres like City-Lights, you feel WANTED. You feel like they appreicate you coming --even if only because without you they couldn't survive financially. You feel like they want your business and want to please you with their show. A theatre's appreciation for their patrons is forevering gapping between the LORT's and the City-Lights of the world, and your post about SJ Rep may prove it.

Interesting point, anon. I also feel like my expectations (and therefore the potential to be disappointed) go way up when the ticket prices go way up. It's always been my complaint about Theatreworks. I honestly don't think they are as superior as they seem to think they are, and I'm not willing to pay double the ticket prices for work that seems equivalent to the theatres you mention.
HUH, NICE POINTS.
I AGREE THAT TICKET PRICES DON'T DETERMINE THE QUALITY OF A SHOW. THIS WEEKEND I SAW "THE ADDING MACHINE" AT FOOTHILL AND "A FEW GOOD MEN AT CITY LIGHTS" AND LOVED THEM BOTH. LOVED THEM.
ADDING MACHINE WAS ALSO INTERESTING BECAUSE IT IS OFF-BROADWAY RIGHT NOW AS A NEW MUSICAL AND GETTING RAVE REVIEWS, AND THIS IS THE CLASSIC --WEIRD, EXCITING-- PLAY THAT STARTED IT ALL. VERY DIFFERENT SHOW. VERY STYLIZED. ENJOYED BOTH SHOWS A LOT.
