Foothill Alums out in the World
Several Foothill alums are in a local production of Bat Boy: the Musical, a campy fun show worth checking out. Here are the deets:
WHO:
Mike Padilla (Cladwell in Urinetown and Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd) plays Dr. Parker.
Soila Munoz (Lil' Becky Two Shoes in Urinetown) plays Ruthie Taylor and other roles.
DaRon Lamar Williams (Ragtime) plays Rev, Hightower and Mrs. Taylor.
WHAT: Bat Boy: the Musical
WHERE: Ray of Light Theatre in SF
LOCATION: SOTA Theatre (School of the Arts) in San Francisco's Twin Peaks area.
WHEN: Preview is Halloween Tues Oct 31 and Thurs Nov 2nd. Opening is Fri Nov 3. Performances run Thu.-Sun. through Sun Nov 11.
HOW MUCH: $15-$35
ADDITIONAL TIDBIT: The show was originally staged last year by Foothill alum James Monroe Igleheart, who is in Boston with the Nat'l Tour of Putnam County Spelling Bee.
According to Mike: "It's worth the price of admission just to see DaRon at full volume, as well as Soila's interpretive death dance scene."
If you like shows like Urinetown, Little Shop of Horrors and the like, you'll like Bat Boy: the Musical.

Casting tidbits from Hollywood
Hat tip to Alicia Teeter for pointing me to Dlisted, where they share the latest casting tidbits on the film version of Sweeney Todd.
Tim Burton's muse, Johnny Depp, has long been announced as the Todd-man, but now apparently there are two more bits of news:
-Tim's other muse, partner Helena Bonham Carter will be playing Mrs. Lovett.
-Sacha Baron Cohen, aka Ali G, is apparently up to play Pirelli the barber.
I can live with both of those, how about you?

Foothill Alum out in the world: Austin Ku
Austin, our Anthony Hope in Sweeney Todd, among other roles, is going to be featured in the Diablo Light Opera Company production of Thoroughly Modern Millie, which actually opens tonight and runs through Saturday November 4th.
Austin is playing Bun Foo, Foo, Chinese henchman #1 to the villanous Mrs. Meers.
If you haven't seen the revival version of Millie I must say they did something extremely clever with the roles of the Chinese henchman. In the original movie these roles are embarrassingly stereotypical, speak pidgin English and would be offensive in today's more aware, more conscious age.
Instead, in this version, they have the actors actually speak Chinese and use supertitles, sot hat the audience can know what's going on. I saw the version at AMT a year or two ago and thought it handily dealt with the issue...even more so than the revival of Annie Get Your Gun did with the Indian issue.
Anyway, it's a bit of a drive for those of us on this side of the bay, but if you can check Austin out!
