For Those of You Who Just Can't Wait

If you're a big James Iglehart fan, then you will want to know about "8-Track: the Sounds of the 70s" playing at the Theatre on San Pedro Square in downtown San Jose.

The show is playing all through the month of December.

Just a word on marketing, given that that's my bailywick, why do they mention "4 fabulous performers", on their site, but not tell you who those performers are?

I only really know James is in this because I recognize him in the publicity shot I've seen in their newspaper ads.

Hmmm...I think I need to give founder Gary DeMattei a call!

"Ragtime", the movie released on DVD

I noted with interest that the movie (and non-musical) version of "Ragtime" is being released on DVD next week.

It's over 20 years old, and I never saw it then, so I'm adding it to my Netflix queue now.

Some interesting cast members...Mandy Patinkin plays Tateh! This is post-Evita, but pre-Sunday in the Park.

Mary Steenburgen is Mother and Donald O'Connor and James Cagney are both in it.

Here's the Netflix listing.

Some Sweeney Casting Updates

I heard a couple more casting tidbits that weren't originally posted:

Last winter's beautiful Cunegonde from "Candide" will return as the equally beautiful (and equally addled) Joanna. Keite Davis returns to Foothill to put her trilling soprano and unique quirkiness to very good use.

Lane McKenna will fill out the female principal roles, playing the Beggar Woman. I have seen Lane play more ingenue-y roles previously, from Maria in "West Side Story" to Lily in "The Secret Garden", so it should be great fun to see her get down and dirty as the Beggar Woman.

I heard this news from an unofficial source, but I think it's pretty trustworthy information.
